In Joan's Shoes (4) : Joan Harris

Hello again,people!

I'm back again with my "In Joan's Shoes" post, featuring people with the same name as I am, Joan.  Whether Joan is a guy, girl, famous, common, fiction, etc, I'll feature them in this brief post ;) 

We already had model and singer before, so why don't we learn a little bit about the fictional character? My choice this week would be, Joan Harris. Yeah, you know whom I talking about. That hot and saucy secretary from the Mad Men series.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Mad Men series despite the fact it's taken place in the 60s. I dunno. I just hate how unfaithful all the male charas there. However, I adore Joan Harris,played by Christina Hendricks.

There are so many things I like about her.She's curvy and the fact that she embraces it makes her even more beautiful. She's saucy. She's so fierce and yet funny. She knows what she wants. Or just like the TIMES US correspondent said :

"Joan is a wonderful character: strong, funny, sexually alluring but also - as fans of the show will know - admirable. In Matthew Weiner's world, she was on the one hand the ideal office manager: capable, assertive and sexy, and then was revealed to be just as insecure as the rest of the characters, desperate to get married and acquire some kind of status. She ran the office with a rod of iron, fairly unsupportive of Peggy's proto-feminist determination to rise in the hierarchy. But she was also shown ultimately not to be her new husband's passive victim"

Supersize vs. Superskinny: Taking it to the Extreme

I adore British Culture I adore it's accent. I adore their taste. I adore their actors. I adore their literature from Jane Austen till Sophie Kinsella. I adore their music. And I adore their TV-show (from Girls in Love, The IT Crowd, until BBC documentary,you name it) Beberapa hari ini, I've been addicted to watch Supersize vs Superskinny.

I think almost every woman in the world wants to be thin, even skinny. From using diet pills, some exercise rapidly,  until starve ourselves, or maybe simply give Photoshop treatment to our photos, we use every single possible way to make us look thinner. I, myself, are one of the desperate to be thinner. (I'm not proud about this. But, just like they say, 'Admitting your problem is the first step to be a better person.')

Became thinner is no an easy thing.There's so much temptation around us. Fast food, junk food, instant food, all unhealthy food are around us. And the fact that things become more convenience can be backstabbing,too. I mean, now we can even do delivery service for food via internet,right?  If we're not careful enough, we can get fatter. And if we can't take control of our body, there's always a possibility to become unhealthy or even obese.

Supersize vs Superskinny take us to look on two people who's having this two problem. One can't control his/her eating habit and become obese. The other is so skinny, either because he/she is too busy, afraid becoming fatter, whatever his/her reason makes him/her forgot to eat. To make things better for these two people, Dr. Christian Jessen brings them to the Feeding Clinic to give them  an extreme treatment for a couple of days.

What extreme treatment? By swapping their eating habit. The Supersize will spend his/her days eating really small portion that's been The Superskinny taken. And The Superskinny will eat lots and lot of food that's usually taken by The Supersize. Interesting,huh? With this treatment, The Supersize will learn to eat less and The Superskinny will learn to eat more. 

And what really interesting is to see the usual foods taken by the two sides. Not only the extreme amounts both sides usually eat,but also what are they eating.  Of course mainly became so obese because they eat unhealthy food. However, there's a Supersize who eat very healthy food but still become fat because he/she eat that portion for 2 people. There are Superskinnies who became so skinny because he/she only eat chocolate bars,junk food, replace meal with coffee or tea.

Other than that, these series will show us how eating disorder effects people, what food should we eat,and many other information about being fit.

This is a great series. They want to show us how important to be balance to maintain our weight. By maintaining doesn't mean to eat less. I learn that we do have to eat from 5 food group(grain,vegetables,meat&fish, dairy, Fats-Oils-Sweets). Cutting one of them or only eating some of them will make us lose some benefits that are needed for our body. Of course taking too much meat will get us fatter. However, we can't cut them off because we need the protein. 

Just be balanced. Control your eating. And, of course, Exercise.

Crazy Dreams

I recently have been watching SMASH.. No, not that idol group from Koream called SMASH. Amit-amit pula idol group dari Indonesia. What I;m talking about is SMASH, the new series about Broadway Life.

At the end of  episode 2, Ivy Lynn sings this song called "Crazy Dreams", originally was sang by Carrie Underwood. Carrie gives a happy country upbeat feeling to this song. However, I'm in love with its cover by Ivy. Ivy gives such soothing and more relieved feeling for it. 

The lyrics,too, gives all the dreamers out there--including me who's been dreaming to become a novelist--  to keep dreaming because even crazy dreams come true :)

Joan Loves.... LOST IN AUSTEN

Bener-bener salahin itv for  making addictive historical dramas!!!! So, after menggalau bersama "Downton abbey" I was looking foranother British historical drama di imdb. IMDB pun membawa gue ke LOST IN AUSTEN.



THE PLOT

Seri ini berpusat pada Amanda Price. Amanda adalah modern day London woman who doesn't satisfy with her life.   Her favorite escape is getting lost in the pages of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.



Suatu malam, Amanda dikagetkan ketika mendapatkan Elizabeth Bennet di kamar mandinya. Yes,people. It is the same Elizabeth Bennet we know from Pride and Prejudice. It turns out that Lizzie Bennet comes in from the plumbing door.



Amanda yang tidak percaya dengan perkataannya Lizzie mencoba untuk membuka pintu yang dimaksud.



And voila, seperti pintu Wardrobe yang menuntun Lucy Pevensie ke Narnia, the door actually leads Amanda to The Bennet Residence!

Ketika Amada hendak kembali ke kamar mandinya, tidak disangka si pintu tertutup dengan sedirinya, meninggalkan Amanda di era Victorian dan Lizzie di dunia modern. Berkali-kali dia mencoba untuk membuka pintu itu, termasuk dengan palu,usahanya tidak  pernah berhasil.

Jadi sambil menunggu pintu tersebut kembali terbuka, Amanda pun menjalani kehidupannya di dunia novel kesayangannya. Salah satunya adalah karena events dari Pride and Prejudice tidak sesuai seperti bukunya, sebagai loyal fan, Amada merasa berkewajiban untuk bertindak menyelamatkan kehidupan para tokoh yang ada di dalam buku. Too bad, seperti usaha Amanda membuka pintu , her efforts to make things right just inevitably make things worse. But she's far from giving up to save Jane Austen's character from unhappy ever after ending. So she keeps trying. And untill she managed to set things right, she has to stay there.



MY THOUGHT

Awalnya gue rada ogah buat nonton. What can I say? Menurut gue drama adaptasi yang terinspirasi dari  Pride and Prejudice yang paling bagus adalah sewaktu Collin Firth yang jadi Mr. Darcy. Not even Bride& Prejudice or Bridget Jone's diary succeed to cath my heart. Moreover, hati ini udah enggak terlalu kepincut  sama Mr. Darcy. Gue udah punya Capt. Wentworth. hahaha

But the moments Amanda step into Lizzie's home sampai episode terakhir,this hopeless romantic girl right here is LOVING it!!!! Aaaa, beneran seri ini seru banget!!

Seperti yang dijanjikan di sinopsi IMDB, banyak hal yang jauh dari seharusnya cerita Pride & Prejudice. However, justru itu yang bikin lucu dan menarik. Begitu banyak twist cerita yang seru banget dan bikin gue ketagihan nonton. Ini beberapa di antaranya:

1. Mr. Bingley awalnya jatuh cinta sama Amanda Price. Karena seharusnya Mr. Bingley itu jadian sama Jane Bennet, Amanda sampai rela ngaku kalau dia itu lesbos. Enggak cuma itu aja, Amanda sampe rela menerima pinangannya Mr. Collins yang awalnya mau melamar Jane, supaya Mr. Bingley punya kesempatan sama Jane.



2.In the book,Mr. Collins  married  with Lizzie's friend, Charlotte Lucas. Here, he married Jane Bennet karena Jane patah hati. Sementara itu, Charlotte akhirnya ke Africa untuk melakukan kegiatan sosial.





3. In the book, Lidya Bennet dibawa lari  sama Mr. Wikcham. In here, Lidya kabur sama Mr.Bingley yang saat itu menyesal udah melepaskan Jane.

4. In the book, awalnya Lizzie akrab sama Mr. Wickam. But since Lizzie's trapped in modern London and Amanda has read the book, Amanda bener-bener enggak suka sama Wikcham.



5.Di buku, gue enggak suka sama Mr. Wikcham. Tapi di 'Lost in Austen', Wikcham tuh aje gile,unyu banget. He's the 'Mr.Darcy'. Maksud gue, dia itu nyebelin, tapi deep down dia itu BAIIIIIIK BANGET!!! Yes, people,he's a real gentleman. Those bad gossip about Wickham harrassing Darcy's little sister was in fact was made by Georgina herself because Wickham doesn't love Georgina. But, he accept the gossip, so Georgina wouldn't get in trouble with her bro, Mr. Darcy. Enggak cuma itu, dia ngebantuin Amanda di saat-saat tertentu. Awww~~~~





6. Mr. Darcy masih nyebelin kok, tapi Lost in Austen berhasil membuat gue jatuh cinta lagi sama doi dan alasan pertama gue dulu naksir Mr. Darcy.  Oh men, cuma Mr. Darcy deh seorang yang  bisa nyebelin,sombong, tapi adorable at the same time. hahaha. Oh iya, the twist (haha,sampe lupa gue)!!! Di Lost in Austen, Mr. Darcy jatuh cinta sama Amanda.caranya membuktikan cintanya ke Amanda itu the best banget!! Kenapa? Dia sampai nyusulin Anna ke modern London. Gila,cuy!!



Tapi yang lebih the best lagi adalah Mr. Darcy beneran mau nurutin Amanda buat nyebur ke kolam. Dan pas dia keluar dari air... DARN!! THOSE ABS!! HIS SILHOUETTE!! HAISSh~



It took pages of letter from Mr. Darcy to make me realize what an amazing gentleman Darcy was. But in this series, selain saat he confessed his love to Amanda dan nyebur ke kolam, cuma butuh dua kalimat dari Mr Darcy untuk membuat gue beneran klepek-klepek dan menye-menye. Yang pertama adalah isi memo dari Darcy yang diselipin ke pintu penghubung ke kamar mandinya Amanda yang bertuliskan, “Not one heart beat do I forget.” Oh meeen,jadi Mr. Darcy pura-pura lupa tentang dia ke dunianya Amanda supaya sedikit mematahkan semangat Lizzie Bennet. So sweet.





Kemudia kalimat kedua adalah saat dia bilang, “I only smiling in private when no one is looking.” Damn,that smile~~~ AAA



THE CONCLUSION

If you are a fan of Pride &Prejudice, you have to watch it. For me, it’s one funny romantic comedy series. In fact, the best BBC ever made in that department. For, those who haven’t read the book, you should give it a try to watch it. At least, you’ll find yourself falling in love Mr. Darcy. Yes, especially you,my fellow hopeless romantic friend (lirik ke @jesicastephanie)  ;)

Joan Loves.... Once Upon A Time

Pernah kebayang enggak Snow White Princess di film klasiknya Disney is no longer a damzel in distress yang masih berpose pas mau dibunuh ?



Instead, she's a bad ass princess. Dia malah dicari-cari karena pembunuhan,pencurian, dan pengkhianatan:

bagi yang enggak sabar untuk melihat twistnya snow white yang diperankan oleh Kirsten Stewart nanti, mungkin bisa pemanasan dulu dengan another snow white story with a twist called "Once Upon a Time".



Once upon a time adalah serial terbarunya ABC. Plot ceritanya goes like this:

Snow White learns through a prophecy that her child will one day save them all. As the Evil Queen’s curse overtakes the kingdom, Snow White and Prince Charming send their newborn daughter through a magic wardrobe to safety, hoping one day she’ll find her way home.

Years later, we meet Emma, a bail bondsman (“bail bondsperson”) on her 28th birthday. As she blows out a lonely candle, a little boy knocks on her door. Henry says he is the son she gave up for adoption 10 years ago and has come to find her so she can save his hometown, Storybrook. He shows her a fairy tale book and tells her it says she’s supposed to save them.

Naturally, Emma doesn’t believe the fantasy side of his story but agrees to take him back home to Storybrook, a Maine town Jessica Fletcher would be proud of. All the same fairy tale characters live there, but they have new names and new lives, and they have forgotten where they came from. No one ages, the clock in the square never ticks forward, and no one can leave without “bad things happening” except for Henry. Only Henry knows the truth.

MY THOUGHT

At first episode, I didn't quite getwhat's the story and found the relation between 'real world' and 'fairy tale world' kinda  confusing. But when  I reached 3rd episode,  now I  really love it. IT WAS AWESOME!!! In third episode I get to see the different side of Snow White,as in the tough and fierce person. Not the dumb princess (coba dong ya,udah dibilangin dwarf ga boleh ngobrol sama orang asing,eh dia bukain pintu buat nenek-nenek mencurigakan yang jualan  in the middle  of nowhere.Ketipunya enggak cuma sekali lho. DUA KALI hampir mati lho Snow White ini!!! gemes mode on) that Grimm Brother has made.

There are  couple things I love  about 'Once Upon A Time'

1.They made a good twist for fairy tale story. The most important thing is they made all the princesses (both in fairy tale and reality) not as vulnerable and weak as the original one. For example: Sebelum menikah dengan Pangeran, Snow White memang dalam pelarian biar enggak dibunuh. Untuk bertahan hidup, dia jadi pencuri dari kereta-kereta yang lewat di hutan. That's how she met her Prince Charming. They didn't fall in love at the 1st sight. In fact, Prince Charming itu udah bertunangan sama putri kerajaan tetangga dan  kesel karena Snow white mencuri cincin pertunangannya. On the other hand, Snow White kesel karena dia masuk ke perangkapnya Prince Charming. Another example, Cinderella  akhirnya malah bertransaksi sama si jahat Rumpelstiltskin supaya dia bisa pergi ke pesta dansa.

2. Tiap akhir episode berhasil membuat gue gregetan,such as: Snow white di dunia nyata tetep enggak jadian sama Prince Charming (episode 3) atau Evil Queen in reality yang ternyata punya hubungan spesial sama sheriff di kotanya(padahal gue pikir si Sherrif itu sebenarnya baik,ternyata dia... huaaa :()

3. Henry, because he's simply adorable and he never gives up to what he believed.

3. The evil queen. I love to hate her. In my opinion, I like her better in reality version. Why? Jahatnya lebih nyebelin,bukan jahat ala ibu tiri, tetapi jahat karena ingin mempertahankan Henry supaya enggak ketemuan lagi sama Emma (sampai Emma dijebloskan ke penjara beberapa kali)

5. The last, but not least is the lead character, Emma. She's one bad ass chick. Dia enggak takut menghadapi villain yang ada di seri ini. Salah satu aksi favorit gue adalah saat Emma ngebalas perbuatan licik Regina dengan menebang pohon apel kesayangannya Evil Quin versi reality itu.

Joan Loves.... Bedtime for Baby Star

Morning,guys.

Gue memulai pagi ini dengan nonton greys anatomy season 8. All I can say about this week's episode is" DAMN!Kayaknya enggak cukup minggu lalu gue dibikin nangis gara-gara Henry muntah darah by the end of episode. Minggu ini dia dibikin mati!" Padahal Teddy-Henry  adalah salah satu  pasangan favorit gue di GA.

Untuk menghibur hati yang dirundung lara ini, gue mencoba mengganti mood dengan nonton Criminal Minds season7. Nah baru deh gue kehibur. Episode kali ini punya unsub dan M.O yang lucu dan cukup menarik dibandingkan yang minggu lalu . In short, the unsub cutting down people, take one part of their body, leave the other body part tobe cleaned up by the tornado. This unsub's taking body part to recreate his big brother who died because of tornado. It looks like he believe that storms from tornado can make the body he created alive. Kayak Dr.Frankenstein, ya. hahaha

Enggak seperti Grey's Anatomy yang udah membuat gue mewek karena sedih banget, Criminal Minds membuat gue mau MEWEK karena tersentuh dengan scene penutup episode. Episode kali ini ditutup dengan JJ yang ngebacain bedtime story e anaknya yang baru keluar dari E.R lewat telepon. So sweet banget kata- katanya. It goes like this:

Once there was a baby star. He lived up near the sun. And every night at bedtime that baby star wanted to have some fun. He would shine and shine and fall and shot and twinkle oh so bright and he said “ Mommy, I’ll run away if you make me say goodnight."
And then his mommy kissed his sparkly nose and said
“No matter where you go, no matter where you are
No matter how big you grown and even if you strange far
I’ll love you forever, because you’re always my baby star."

What do I like about this scene? The story itself was deep and heartwarming already + narasi dari JJ + iringan gitar akustik + suara imut anaknya JJ saat ngomong "Good Bye,Mommy"= kombinasi yang tepat untuk membuat orang macem gue mewek karena tersentuh sama scene yang satu ini

Saking sukanya sama cerita ini, gue ngesearch di google tentang buku Bedtime for Baby Star. Come to my surprise, buku ini enggak beneran ada di toko-toko. Ternyata bukunya cuma properti film yang dibikin sama crew Criminal Minds.

Coba Criminal Minds crewnya ngejual buku ini di toko-toko. Kalo sampe di Indonesia, gue beli deh XD

Joan Loves.... 2 Broke Girls

Yo again,minna-san.. sehari dua post..kayak minum obat aja. Oh well, sebelum gue lupa dan pergi tidur,  gue mau ngeshare another sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls.

The Story

Set in the New York City boroughof Brooklyn, the series chronicles the lives of two waitresses in their early twenties—Max (Kat Dennings), who comes from a poor working-class family (and works an additional job as a nanny to a spoiled, obnoxious Manhattansocialite), and Caroline (Beth Behrs), who was born rich but is now disgraced and penniless due to her father being caught operating a Bernard Madoff-esque Ponzi scheme—working together at a Brooklyn restaurant. The two become friends and build their dream of one day opening a cupcake shop (for which they need to raise $250,000), although they can barely afford anything with the pay they receive at work, and must continually find ways to make ends meet. Among those working with them at the restaurant are their boss, Han Lee (Matthew Moy); Oleg (Jonathan Kite), an upbeat Ukrainian cook; and Earl (Garrett Morris), the cashier. At the start of each episode Max is shown serving a table and at the end of each episode, a tally shows how much of the $250,000 goal they have earned so far.(source wikipedia)

MY THOUGHT

I love it from the very first beginning I watch the first episode. :D It's really funny.

I just don't get it why certain people so obsessed and saying that this sitcom's being raccist. I didn't find it racist. It's a lil' bit vulgar on the language, but not racist. So there are some lines  from Max,like "don't talk to him if you don't wanna feel whiter than you are now." but I sense no racist. Dan yang gue lihat , Max itu sayang dan care sama si Earl kok.  There are some other scene yang nyinggung stereotype ras Asia juga, tapi gue juga enggak menganggap itu racist. In fact  I found it funny because it's kinda true. I've seen that kind of people in real life walaupun enggak selucu si Han.

Oke ,lanjutttt...

Hal selanjutnya yang gue suka adalah dari tokoh-tokoh utamanya, Max dan Caroline. I can totally relate to Max. In fact, I am Max (minus the gorgeous hair, smooth skin ). I'm cynical, almost think the worst that could happen to me, and SO LOW in self-esteem. Jadi gue nancep banget saat melihat Max yang enggak pernah yakin sama ide-ide Caroline karena dia enggak percaya sama kemampuannya.Yang bikin lebih nancep lagi adalah saat si Max GUGUP+Stutter saat promosiin kue ke bosnya.. Damn, itu gue pas lagi mau presentasi eksternal semester lalu..

Terus gue juga respect banget sama Caroline. She might be a typical rich daddy's girl, tapi dia mau berusaha untuk tetap bertahan terlepas teman-teman di lingkungan sosialnya udah males nerima dia. Yang bikin gue kagum lagi adalah begitu positive thinkingnya si Caroline. Dialah yang selalu nyemangatin  Max supaya Max lebih pede lagi.  Surprisingly, she can gives a really good pep talk about being positive thinking when it comes to your dream. It's inspiring :D

Of course, there are hot people in this sitcom. Yang pertama adalah mantan pacarnya Max yang dimainkan oleh Noah Mills. Yup THAT Noah Mills, the model one. Walaupun cuma muncul 2 episode, tapi gue puas banget ngeliatnya. We got to see those chizzled abs of him XD

Setelah itu juga ada Johnny, bartender/artist yang menjadi semacam 'gebetan'nya Max. He's not as handsome as Noah, but he's cute, too :D

All i got to say is it's a great sitcom, bahkan menurut gue lebih bagus dari  STATE OF GEORGIA.
