In Joan's Shoes (2) : Joan Smalls

As the first person to be put in the series of 'In Joan's Shoes', I'd like you to meet Joan Smalls. Her last name may be Small , but nothing small about this lady (Well, okay maybe her size is small)... Joan Small is one of the famous international models in the 2010s alongside with Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sasha Pivovarova. In models.com , she comes in 3rd place as top rankings model after Lara Stone and Natasha Poly.

You see major fashion lines  doing fashion show, you'll also see her walked in that runway  :)

Here's a bit bio about Joan Smalls(from modelinia.com) :

Puerto Rican native, Joan Smalls, found her start in the modeling world in 2007 when left her homeland, moved in with her aunt in Queens, and signed with Elite Model Management. Born on July 11, 1988 to a father from St. Thomas and Puerto Rican mother, Joan grew up on the island, but always knew her calling was in the modeling industry.

Only a year into her career, she already made her transition into film, and appeared in Ricky Martin’s “It’s Alright” video, but it was thanks to  designer Riccardo Tisci that she truly became a force on the runway. She was selected to walk exclusively for the Givenchy Spring 2010 couture show and immediately became one of the most coveted catwalk gals.

During her career, she’s walked for designers including Oscar de la Renta, Sophie Theallet, Brian Reyes, Catherine Malandrino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney, Prada, Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Hermès, as well as fellow model, Naomi Campbell’s charity runway benefitting Fashion for Relief.  With blue chip moments such as a Gucci and Givenchy campaign, as well as appearances in Vogue and Vogue Paris, Joan transitioned into stardom.

In addition to her major closing moments on the Spring 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier and Dior runway, opening moment at Yves Saint Laurent, and cover of the Fall 2010 issue of i-D, Joan was one of the select group of models who earned a shout out from Kanye West in his song, Christian Dior Denim Flow, along with Kate Moss, Coco Rocha, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Anja Rubik.

Ever the devoted daughter, Joan spent her first hard earned model dollars buying a car for her father!
