Mirror Mirror

Oh well.. let's talk about the movie..

THE PLOT
After a beloved King vanishes, his ruthless wife seizes control of the kingdom and keeps her beautiful 18-year-old stepdaughter, Snow White, hidden away in the palace. But when the princess attracts the attention of a charming and wealthy visiting prince, the jealous Queen banishes the girl to a nearby forest. Taken in by a band of rebellious but kindhearted dwarfs, Snow White blossoms into a brave young woman determined to save her country from the Queen. With the support of her new friends, she roars into action to reclaim her birthright and win back her Prince in this magical adventure comedy that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over. My Thoughts
My first thought... yay! At last, I get to see Julia Roberts as a villain. And for me, she's done it so well. Still can't beat 'Once Upon A Time's version of The Queen, though.

It's an interesting fairy tale adaptation. I like it much better than the Disney version. Firstly, they pictured that the Queen loves to party and  spending money for

In this movie, Snow White's pictured without such fragility. At first, yeah I'm not into this character. Oh well, this is the typical gentle kind princess who's naive and weak. She even believed that she's not strong. Arrgh, so depressing.

But it all changed bit by bit when she run into the forest and met the dwarfs. at last didn't want to be the damsel in distress like those princesses she read from fairy tale. Not like the classic cartoon version, Snow White's willing to learn to be tougher and stronger. Also though she loved the prince, she didn't go weak when she fought him. While in the Disney version she was saved by everyone, in this version she saved all her friends and prince from the Queen.  She became a brave woman and willing to fight back the Queen. Snow is the one who beats the evil Queen with such coolness, not the animals in the forest like the cartoon does.

You might thought because I'm a hopeless romantic, I'll like the Prince character, right? Yeah, you are wrong.Though he's handsome, but I still don't like him. Yeah he's charming and kinda funny. Still, for me.. he's just too proud. That's why I was more than happy to see him under the puppy love spell.

My favorite scenes would be :
1) When The Mirror Spirit sent dolls to destroy The Dwarfs and Snow. It's kinda creepy and reminded me of those dark moment you usually saw in dark theme anime.
2) The ballroom dance scene.  Full of beautiful white gowns inspired by animals and I love the cute chat between The Prince and Snow White.
3) The wedding crash scene.Again full of interesting costumes.
4) The efforts to cure the Prince from the spell scene.
5) Scenes before Snow went to fight the Beast. I felt like a proud mama seeing her so brave :')

The scene I hate the most would be the Queen's beauty treatment. Arghh, it's so disgusting. No, I was okay and not disgusted by the snake or bird's poo. But, maggots??!! EUWWW!!!

The costumes are so awesome!!!!! So colourful, epic, and out of this world. Bravo for the late Ishioka Eiko-san. May she rest in peace.

Please do not leave right after the movie finished. You'd miss one of the highlights of  this fairy tale adaptation. What is that? The singing your heart out while dancing scene. Come on, it's still a princess movie. It won't complete without that, right? And it's not another usual singing scene. It's Bollywood dancing/singing scene! (*pasti karena sutradaranya orang India deh! hahaha)

Conclusion
I still found "Once Upon A Time"s version is more satisfying than this movie. I don't know  there's something missing in this story.

However, it's still a good movie to be watched.  The movie has interesting twists.  It has good message for kids. All things is possible if you just believe that you can do it.

7/10?
